LA SENA

La Sena was born Lani Senanayake in 1972 in a rustic village called Padaviya in the North Eastern boarder of the Anuradapura district in Sri Lanka as the third child of the family. And she was called “Lani” by her family.

She attended to her primary education at Buddangala Maha Vidyalaya, Padaviya and subsequently joined the University of Moratuwa to read her Bsc degree of Build Environment. Her father being a rural traditional artist, she inherited a natural talent on the field of contemporary and modern art. Furthermore, Lani was greatly inspired by her elder brother who had turned her to be a master of the brush.

Lani was deeply motivated to further enhance her talents, and as a result earned a reputation as an upcoming young artist within a short period of time. She is a self taught artist with a creative hand and passion for modern art in the form of abstract . Her passion is well fuelled by the rich textures on canvas with forms and light which enables her to create abstracted paintings in vibrant dark, green, yellow and blue

old souls
Lani tries to depict the reality of the modern complex life in the Sri Lankan society. Through the thick layers of textures, Lani adds the reality to the ordinary life on the canvas. Additionally, she combines various points of view on the same subject as well as different subjects to create a fractured and abstracted look to her paintings. The world of art was quick to recognise Lani as a professional artist and therefore she was fortunate enough to be given the performing art exhibitions in leading tourist hotels in the island. She is also a senior member of ‘ Geoge Keat ‘Foundation for more than three decades. a member of visual ‘Kala Pola’ since 2000.
